Henry Ford once said "If I had asked customers what they wanted, they would have told me they wanted a faster horse." In other words: asking isn't enough. The most innovative companies--like Netflix--go to great lengths to actually stand in customers' shoes. This gives them the knowledge and the confidence to expand beyond their core competencies, think outside the box, and adjust their business dynamically to consumer needs.
